Hi ladies! Happy Monday! What better way to kick off the week than with a hair tutorial? I'm going to talk you through how to curl your hair with a wand. After I go through step by step, I'm talking about the wand I used in this tutorial, as well as my current favorite hair spray! Keep reading to see how I got these curls <3
First and foremost, it's important to hold your wand the same way every time to get a uniform look. If you are starting with the right side of your hair, hold the curling wand in your left hand and wrap your hair with your right hand (and vice versa for when you're curling the left side).
I always hold the wand upside down and place it behind my hair as shown above. This will ensure that your are curling away from your face which gives your curls more of a flow and helps to frame your face.
I always part my hair into two sections. I just follow my normal part down the back of my head and separate the two sides. I then start in the front and curl my hair in one inch sections (give or take).
Once I take a section and I am holding the curling iron upside down behind my hair, I just start wrapping my hair around the barrel. I always leave my ends out to get an undone look as opposed to a sleek look. I only hold my hair on the barrel for 10-15 seconds per piece. I repeat this process until my whole head is done!
TIP: Don't curl all the way to the root. Leave a couple inches off of the wand so your hair lays flat at the top for a more natural look.
After curling one side, I spray that side with hair spray and let my curls set. After curling my whole head and letting my curls cool, I run my fingers through my hair to loosen them up and blend them together.
I have a video tutorial on my Instagram stories under the 'HAIR' highlight in my profile. I use this exact wand and technique in that tutorial if you want to watch it on video!
My current favorite hair spray is the primp working spray by Arrojo. It has a medium hold and leaves your hair feeling touchable. It's very comparable to the Moroccan Oil medium hold hair spray which is another favorite of mine.
The wand I used in this tutorial is the Nume Lustrum 5 in one that I received in a PR package from Ulta. I love that this wand has interchangeable barrels; however, the 1.25 inch is the one I use the most & is the one I'm using here. I also love this wand because it doesn't get too hot and it leaves your hair feeling silky smooth. I'm also linking the regular 1.25 Nume wand here because it's only $69 and is the only size barrel you need to achieve loose waves.
Thanks so much for reading! I hope you found this tutorial helpful!
