When it comes to storing and organizing my beauty products, I haven't always been as diligent as I am now. I used to just throw my products in my vanity drawer and that was it. When I recently converted my room at my parent's house into an office space/dressing room, I switched out all my furniture and decided to get organized.
My "vanity" that I use now is actually a console table. I needed something that was big enough for my every day products but didn't take up a lot of room or look too bulky. This table was the perfect option because the sides are glass and it's narrow enough for my space. It's easy to put together, great quality, and you can't beat the price point. I'm also linking my mirror here. It was only $59 and I love the unique shape. I may switch it out for a round one, but I have yet to decide!
The unit I use to store and organize my products is this acrylic set that you can build yourself! You get to pick the different trays & drawers, and organize them however you want. When I started looking for a unit, I knew I wanted one that was acrylic and loved that this one was customizable. I ended up snagging this set when it was on sale and I couldn't be happier with the outcome! I've had it for about five months now and it has kept me so organized!
Before I jump into each section of my acrylic set, I want to mention how I keep my makeup brushes organized. For the longest time, I have kept my makeup brushes in the mason jars you see below. I spray painted two different sized jars years ago and that's how I've stored my brushes ever since. I sprayed one coat of primer, then two coats of silver and it's as easy as that. It's a fun little DIY that doesn't take an extreme amount of time, and you can choose any color spray paint you want!
My rose gold tray is a homegoods find, as well as the two mercury glass jars you see next to it. In those jars I store q-tips in one and hair ties/bobby pins in the other. I also have another jar next to my acrylic unit that I keep my lip balms and hand cream in. This allows for easy access as I'm getting ready and it helps that they're in cute containers!
One alternative to buying jars at homegoods (or wherever), is to use jars from candles you have burned. Once the candles are down to the end, you can clean out the left over wax, wash the jars, and then they serve a whole new purpose!
Now let's talk about each section of my acrylic makeup storage set. For the top, I knew I wanted an open piece so I could store things like my foundation, primers, moisturizers, serums, etc. And that's exactly what I ended up using this section for! These are all of my skincare and face products that I use regularly and always reach for first.
From the top down, the next section consists of two separate, smaller drawers. One drawer is dedicated to eyes and the other is dedicated to lips. All of my mascaras, brow products, and eyeliners fit perfectly in one drawer. In the other drawer, all of my MAC lipsticks line up just right.
The third drawer down is the drawer where I store the rest of my face products. This includes my concealer, setting powder, single blushes & bronzers, and highlighters. I also store any extra or unopened products in the back half of this drawer because it has the extra room for them.
The bottom drawer is deeper than the rest and is used to store my palettes. I knew I was going to need a deep drawer for these since I have a handful! It couldn't have worked out more perfect. I have 11 palettes total in this drawer and could fit one more layer if needed.
So, that's how I store and organize my beauty products! When I got this unit, I had way more than what you see. It forced me to clean out and get rid of products that were old or unused. Having less to choose from also helps my every day routine go by a little quicker. I'd love to hear your tips & tricks for storing beauty products! Be sure to leave a comment below!
